Nicola and Andrea’s Emotional Wedding at Smokies Park Hotel, Ashton
Being a local venue to me, I’ve been a guest at, and photographed at, a number of weddings at Smokies Park over the years. Being a familiar venue that I really enjoy spending time at, I was delighted when Nicola and Andrea got in touch and asked me to photograph at their wedding. I was even more pleased when I learned they wanted to book me as I’d photographed at two prior weddings in Oldham that they had seen and loved my work. From the moment I met them both, I knew I would really enjoy being part of their day and it really didn’t disappoint.
The Day Unfolds
In the morning, I met the ladies up in the Smokies bridal suite (a lovely set of rooms at the top of the hotel) and spent time capturing them getting ready in the most relaxed manner. There was just lots of smiles and fun with no visible pre-wedding nerves at all (a few bottles of empty fizz may have helped with this!). Even with a number of children added to the mix, the morning really did have a calming atmosphere to it. As you can see in the opening picture, it was not long until Nicola’s mum began to get overwhelmed with the emotion of the day - a feature to return later in the day.
The Boys Arrive
After leaving the ladies to the last minute prep for the wedding, I met the guys downstairs whilst they had a swift pint in the hotel bar to settle their nerves. Shortly after, more guests started to arrive ready to celebrate the day. One of the huge benefits of wedding venues such as Smokies Park Hotel is the ease of access as everything is under the one roof. Guests were checking in early before meeting in the bar ready for the ceremony. I was able to flit between spending time with the guys and guests downstairs whilst running back up to the bridal rooms in the hotel.
The Ceremony, Wedding Breakfast and Party
Once everyone’s nerves were settled and guests were seated, it was time for the wedding ceremony which saw a number of tears of happiness and even and Skype call to Italy to involve some family members that could not make it. After the ceremony, there was some wonderful magic with John Holt (he really isn’t Dynamo as he states in his promotional materials) that kept guests entertained until the wedding breakfast and speeches. During the speeches, the best man had brought back a number of ‘items’ from Columbia where he had been teaching - one was particularly funny (and hugely illegal had it have been real!). After the speeches, it was time to relax, drink and dance.
